“I learnt that on Jupiter there is a giant red storm bigger than Earth which reaches wind speeds of over 200 miles per hour.
I also learnt the order of the planets and how close they were to the sun. I really enjoyed it and would love to do it again.”
Jemima Williams – Year 7 pupil
“I really enjoyed the video where all the meteors were coming towards us.
I learnt the saying, My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pies, to remember the order of the planets.
It was amazing to learn about space, it was really fun and interesting.”
Ellie Kidd – Year 7 pupil
A Super Scientific Morning for Year 8

Year 8 pupils enjoyed a fun-filled morning in the hall this term learning about the forces involved in different sports. Pupils were engaged throughout and showed a real enthusiasm to get involved.
The highlight of the morning came when two teachers had to sit on the ‘Chair of Doom’ that was lined with 100 sharp nails pointing upwards!
Pupils gasped in fear as Mr Tollman and Mrs George sat on the chair only to gave a big sigh of relief after seeing that both of their teachers survived.

“I enjoyed the way the scientist made it fun, exciting and useful. I loved the way he interacted with the audience and made us part of his presentation. He showed us all about the way forces help us in life and in sport.
He helped us learn a lot while having a good time. It was the most exciting science presentation ever!!!”
Kyron Tolland – Year 8 pupil
Thanks to Year 8 for being an outstanding audience!
Movember Men!

A hardy bunch of St Julian's staff have joined the 'Movember Movement' to raise money and awareness of Prostate Cancer.
Fund raising has gone well and the final push will be in earnest, before the moustaches bite the dust for another year - maybe !!
Please give generously if approached by these shady characters.
SCIENCE EXPERIMENT WITH A BANG!

Over 200 pupils from our feeder primary schools joined us on the 21st of October for a morning of fun filled Science experiments.
The theme for the morning was Acids and Alkalis, and pupils took part in a number of different activities, including making a testing indicator out of cabbage!
The event was a great success, and all pupils enjoyed covering their ears, whilst waiting for the bang of balloons bursting during the test for Hydrogen.
Ms. Winterson would like to thank everyone involved in the event – the Science department, the sixth form pupils who helped out, and most importantly all of the Year 6 pupils who participated so superbly – the department hope that you have had a taster of what is in store for you in Year 7!

Last week students at St Julian’s raised money to support our Animal Charities Week in school. Following an assembly on Animal Care and Welfare with Miss Hook, students were asked to donate money and vote for their favourite teacher’s pet. Miss Morgan’s puppy, Hector, received the most votes allowing Miss Morgan to choose the charity money is to be donated to. £152 was collected by the Head Team for St Tiggywinkles, a charity which cares for injured wildlife. This is one of many charities the school donate to throughout the year. A big thanks to all who made this possible!
